NAP State Tax Credits Info

The Neighborhood Assistance Program exists to encourage Virginia taxpayers who donate to  non-profits serving in predominantly low-income communities. 

After Abundant Life completes an extensive application / reporting process each year, we are assigned a certain quantity of Tax Credits to offer to our faithful donors – you!  And, the more quickly we give out the few we have, the more we can request in the future.

*** IMPORTANT CAUTION***

Gifts (“grants”) from Donor-Advised-Funds CANNOT be used towards receiving NAP tax credits – e.g. PayPal Giving fund, Fidelity Charitable Gift Fund, Vanguard Charitable, Schwab Charitable, National Christian Foundation, GoFundMe, Meta/Facebook or similar 3rd-party entities.

Below are our policies concerning apportioning these limited Tax Credits, in hopes of being granted even more by the State next year:

• • There is a $500 minimum for a gift to qualify for the NAP program
  • As with all things State-related, there will be a few forms to fill out
  • After the donation and paperwork are completed, the State takes a few weeks to review them. Then Abundant Life sends you an Award Certificate for use with tax filing.
  • Donors who are new to our NAP Tax Credits receive a 50% Tax Credit rate on gifts between $500 and $4,999 – e.g. $1,000 donation leads to a $500 reduction in State Taxes. 
  • However, new donors who give $5,000 or more receive a 65% Tax Credit rate – e.g. $6,000 donation leads to a $3,900 reduction in State Taxes.
  • Legacy donors who have previously participated in our NAP Tax Credits program receive a 65% Tax Credit on all gifts over $500. 
• A few more details – 
• NAP uses a different document for Fall donations vs. Spring donations.
• Donations during the Spring need to have all paperwork in by June 5th.
