Amid a pandemic that forced the 19th Annual Fifeville MLK Day Celebration online, Abundant Life presented its much-anticipated Community Awards to winners via Zoom. Abundant Life then shared the award presentations on social media throughout the day to celebrate the awardees: Chris Nocks, Christ Episcopal Church, Juan Aparicio Dominguez, and Diane Myers. Watch the videos below to understand our 2021 honorees’ contributions to the Prospect community and why they are so deserving! Many thanks to volunteer Jonathan Knabe for his skillful editing!
Outstanding Student Award
Director of Leadership Development Richard Feero kicked things off by presenting the Outstanding Student Award to CHS senior Chris Nocks. Richard explained the importance of the current STRIVE participant, 5/8 Club volunteer, and future United States Marine to the Prospect neighborhood:
Outstanding Community Partner Award
Next up, Elementary Programs Coordinator Angel Feero presented Christ Church, represented by Paul Walker and Melville Krebs, with the 2021 Outstanding Community Partner Award. Angel explained how the church opened its doors to host Abundant Life’s pop up school to support Prospect elementary students with their virtual learning:
Outstanding Parent Award
In a first for Abundant Life, Abundant Life Fellow Luís Sanchez Rosa then presented the Outstanding Parent Award in Spanish to Juan Aparicio Dominguez. In addition to being a great father to three children in our programs (Brianni, Steven and Joaquin), Juan volunteered with Gardening Club this past summer and mowed his elderly neighbors’ lawns during the pandemic. Watch to see why Juan amazes us with his humility, generosity, and service (turn Closed Captioning on for English subtitles):
Beloved Community Award
Finally, Director of Community Engagement Anne Brown presented the prestigious Beloved Community Award to an amazing volunteer. Diane Myers has volunteered with us in Johnson Tutoring, Bible Club, Bible Camp, and most recently four days per week in our Kindergarten Learning Lab. As Anne explained, even a broken foot couldn’t interfere with her extraordinary commitment to the children of Prospect:
Congratulations to all of our winners! We are so thankful for your service to our community!
