Day of Caring volunteers bring new life to 782

September 26, 2026 | Written by Dylan Rosenthal

Contributed by Eddie Howard

On September 16, dedicated volunteers participating in the United Way’s annual Day of Caring blessed us with their time and talents. We were thrilled to welcome them into our community to breathe new life into 782 Prospect with a fresh coat of paint.

We want to especially shout out Katrina, Vera, Sally, Tonya, Janelle, and Alana for the dedication you all showed despite the intensity of the project. Your excitement and determination did not go unnoticed and we are beyond grateful for the commitment you showed in completing the entire project within the timeframe. We were not sure if it could be done, but you all proved us wrong in the best way.

Not only did you all complete the project, but you did so with care and thoughtfulness, even encouraging Abundant Life staff who wanted to pitch in, despite being clearly on a mission. We would like to nominate this team for the United Way Day of Caring MVP!

You all were truly a team of ladies on a mission that day, and Abundant Life is blessed because of it. Thank you for transforming the building with your hard work, joy, and excellence!

Thank you to United Way of Greater Charlottesville for hosting an amazing community initiative, and to the Building Goodness Foundation for their generous donation of painting supplies, including paint, brushes, and tape rollers! Abundant Life looks forward to the next Day of Caring!

We did a fun activity where the guys were tasked with finding the...

What drawing and Abundant Life mean to me

We are blessed to work with so many amazing children, and we want to introduce you to one of them. Celeste is 11 and a participant in our Middle School Tutoring program. She was kind enough to share her artwork with us, as well as the impact that drawing and Abundant Life have had on her life. "I started drawing when I was four years old. I began making art because it quickly became a fun hobby...

Lifting Black Voices: Mrs. Lula Rogers, Abundant Life Co-Founder

Today, in celebration of Black History Month, we honor our co-founder and spiritual grandmother, Mrs. Lula Rogers. Born in Charlottesville in 1917, Lula Wicks married Charles Rogers, who died in 1946. Mrs. Rogers worked as a housekeeper and then an educator for 30 years. She served in the cafeteria at Burley High School before becoming a teacher’s assistant at McGuffey School. After McGuffey’s...
