Every year since 2003, Abundant Life has invited Fifeville residents to come together on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Together, we celebrate Dr. King’s legacy, his ideals of nonviolence, justice and equality, the talents of our neighbors, and the culture of our neighborhood. Due to COVID-19, we are moving the 19th Annual Fifeville MLK Day Celebration online!
A day long celebration
Throughout the day, we will be posting videos announcing our Community Awards winners, photos of our children’s artwork, and content from previous years’ celebrations. Follow us on social media (@cvlabundantlife on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube) and the hashtag #fifevillemlkday to join in the celebration! To kicks things off, please enjoy the video montage below of previous years’ celebrations!
Additionally, our programs are honoring Dr. King in various ways. Children at our elementary virtual learning center broke into small groups for a lesson, discussion, and reflection through art (see below). STRIVE students and mentors participated in an online discussion about Dr. King’s legacy of nonviolent activism and current events. Members of Royal Girls and the 5/8 Club participated in discussions in their programs as well.
Reflect on the life and legacy of Dr. King
We hope you’ll take the opportunity today — alone or with others — to reflect on Dr. King’s legacy in light of current events, and how you and those in your sphere of influence can be agents of positive change in your neighborhood, school, house of worship, or workplace. We pray you stay safe and healthy, and look forward to when we can gather together again in person!
“Love is creative and redemptive. Love builds up and unites; hate tears down and destroys. The aftermath of the ‘fight with fire’ method which you suggest is bitterness and chaos, the aftermath of the love method is reconciliation and creation of the beloved community.” — Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
